Each delivery averaged into one exact Cost per item.
In Shopify, Cost per item stays fixed when stock arrives, and a new price replaces the cost of all stock. True COGS updates it as you receive inventory: purchase order prices are averaged with the stock you hold, at weighted average cost or FIFO, with landed cost (freight and duties). Opening costs come in from Stocky or a CSV. Each month closes on COGS, with an inventory valuation report.

Questions
What happens when I receive a purchase order?
Each unit cost is recorded with its share of freight and duty, and your weighted average or FIFO cost is written to Cost per item. Supplier transfers you receive update Cost per item too. Purchase order prices are checked against what you last paid.
My supplier sends an invoice, not a purchase order. Can I still record what I paid?
Yes. Put the invoice's prices on a purchase order in Shopify before the stock is received, or type them on the Waiting page once it arrives. Either way each price is averaged into Cost per item.
Weighted average or FIFO?
Cost per item is kept at your weighted average or FIFO cost, not the last price. FIFO costing starts on the Starter plan.
I am moving off Stocky. Can I keep my purchase orders?
Yes. Stocky purchase orders are imported with their dates, as your cost history. Opening costs from Stocky or a CSV value the stock you already hold, with no new receipt.
Does the unit cost include tax?
The unit cost you enter is used as given. If you can't reclaim the tax, enter the cost with tax included.
Does it work with my accounting?
True COGS works with QuickBooks Online. The month-end entry goes to QuickBooks beside apps that post COGS: only the difference.
What data can True COGS see?
Product and inventory data, and the financial parts of your orders. It never queries, receives, or stores your customers' names, emails, phone numbers, or addresses. The privacy policy lists everything.
What happens to my data if I uninstall?
Your store's data is deleted following Shopify's uninstall and redaction process, within 30 days at the latest.
