Shopify COGS apps compared: which cost of goods sold app fits your store
It depends on the job. To keep Cost per item at the weighted average or FIFO cost every time stock arrives, you need a costing app such as True COGS, which does it on receipt and is free for up to 25 variants. If you want forecasting and purchase planning, Prediko can also sync a weighted average once a day. For FIFO cost of goods sold with landed cost read from invoices, Landara is a newer option (launched August 2026). Profit dashboards such as TrueProfit, and reports such as Profiteer, show profit from the costs you give them; they are only as accurate as those costs. We make True COGS; the facts on the other apps come from their own listings and help pages.

What to check before you choose
- Does it update Cost per item? Shopify's own profit and month-end inventory reports read that field. An app that keeps costs only inside itself leaves those reports wrong.
- When does it update? On each receipt, once a day, or only when you type?
- Which method? Weighted average, FIFO, or last price paid.
- Freight and duty. Can the cost include landed cost?
- History. Is every price kept with its date, so last month can be checked?
- Price model. By catalogue size or by order volume.

Which fits which store
- You reorder the same products and the price moves: you need the cost recalculated on each delivery. True COGS does it on receipt; Prediko can do it daily if you also want its planning tools.
- You want FIFO cost of goods sold with freight and duty, and month-end journals: True COGS (FIFO on paid plans) and Landara both cost by FIFO; Landara states it posts COGS journals to Xero or QuickBooks Online.
- You left Stocky: you need average cost on received purchase orders and your Stocky history. See replacing Stocky's average unit cost.
- You import and pay freight and duty: look for landed cost split by weight and value. See landed cost per unit.
- You want a profit dashboard with ad spend: a profit analytics app fits, but get the cost right first; a dashboard multiplies whatever cost it is given.
- You only need an occasional inventory value: Shopify's Month-end inventory value report may be enough, as long as Cost per item is kept current (month-end guide).
